Chennai police have established a Special Investigation Team to probe allegations of sexual offences against R Veeramani.
Veeramani was arrested along with Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan in Aug 29 in connection with the POCSO case. A former employee of Gem Granites, Ganesan, was subsequently arrested after police found a video linked to the case on his mobile phone on Sep 22. The SIT will be headed by Additional Commissioner of Police PC Thenmozhi of the Central Crime Branch in Chennai city police. The other members are Joint Commissioner of Police N Disha Mittal of the West Zone, Superintendent of Police Mutharasi, who handles spokesperson and media relations, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Geethanjali of the Central Women and Children (CWC) unit. Investigators were examining how he obtained the video and why he did not report it to the police.
CHENNAI: The Chennai police have constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case against Gem Granites chairman R Veeramani in connection with allegations of sexual offences against minor girls. The team was formed as the investigation into the case expanded following the arrest of Veeramani and his associates. Police have been examining evidence and statements collected during the investigation, including digital material linked to the case. The SIT will coordinate the investigation and examine the evidence and statements collected so far as part of the continuing probe.
