The fireworks had caused extensive damage to the temple structures, according to the complainant.
Kochi: A team of experts from the Archaeological Survey of India would assess the impact of the Pooram fireworks on the structure of the Vadakkumnathan Temple in Thrissur and file a report with the high court, along with suggestions on the precautions to be taken.
Following the assurance, a bench of Justices V Raja Vijayaraghavan and K V Jayakumar adjourned the petition to Oct 9. The Additional Solicitor General of India gave the assurance to the court in response to a suo motu case initiated by it on a complaint from a devotee regarding the alleged threat to the ancient structures of the temple from the bursting of firecrackers during the Pooram festival.
Taking note of these allegations, the court had previously impleaded the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady devaswoms, the Thrissur Pooram exhibition committee, the superintending archaeologist and the competent authority of the National Monument Authority in a petition concerning the issue.
