Kanpur: A 60-year-old resident of Swaroop Nagar, Pawan Agrawal , who owned a kattha factory and a fuel station in Fatehpur, died after his SUV jumped the divider and collided head-on with a gas tanker on the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway on Saturday, police said.
The tanker driver said he was moving at normal speed in his lane when the SUV suddenly jumped the divider. The accident occurred in front of Chandrika Dhaba at Maholi in Maharajpur police station area. The car was travelling from Kanpur towards Prayagraj when it went out of control, crossed over to the opposite lane and rammed into a tanker coming from Prayagraj and heading towards Mathura. He applied the brakes but could not avoid the collision as the car was at high speed. The impact left the SUV badly damaged, trapping its driver inside.An NHAI team and Maharajpur police reached the spot and broke the car’s windows to pull him out. Police rushed Pawan to Sarsaul CHC, where doctors declared him dead. The family has been informed and further action has been initiated.
