Repeatedly used cooking oil found by FDA during inspection in Parbhani
The action began in Parbhani district’s Gangakhed town, where food safety officer Vaibhav Thombre inspected a bakery at Sagar Colony on Sept 24 that scored only 10 out of 82 marks. It scored only 20 out of 62 marks, as the hotel kitchen operated in an unclean space with waterlogging, house fly infestation, no separate storage for food, chemical and personal items, an unclean fridge, no personal hygiene by workers and no bills of raw materials available. In Dharashiv district, assistant commissioner Nitin Mohite suspended the licence of a popular hotel on Dhoki Road, Kalamb, after food safety officer Rohit D Fundi found the premises infested with cockroaches and flies, with the unit scoring only 38 out of 112 marks. At Tuljapur, food safety officer Pallavi D Imbade inspected a famous on Bhavani Road on Sept 25 that scored 45 out of 94 marks, as the kitchen had cockroaches, black mould and oil stains, and no separate storage for raw and cooked food in the freezer.
Blackened cake trays, food kept in the open with flies and insects, damaged freezers and ovens, no certificates and licences along with missing food reports were the reported lapses.
FDA joint commissioner Shrikaant Karkale said the units — a bakery from Gangakhed in Parbhani district, a dairy in Aundha Nagnath from Hingoli district, a hotel each at Kalamb and Tuljapur from Dharashiv district, and another hotel in Pathri from Parbhani district — have been barred from manufacturing, storing, selling or distributing any food items until they rectify all deficiencies and clear re-inspection. Furthermore, workers handled food without caps, aprons or gloves, according to an FDA official. The mandatory drinking water report was unavailable and raw milk was not maintained below five degrees Celsius, said an FDA official.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In another action under the ‘Safe Food Safe Maharashtra’ campaign, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the licences of five food businesses — a bakery, a milk dairy unit and three hotels — in Parbhani, Hingoli and Dharashiv districts after inspections exposed filthy premises, pest infestation and wrong business categorisation. In Pathri taluka of the same district, food safety officer Krishna Mule inspected a hotel at Dhalgaon, which sells khichdi, tea and other food items, and was functioning as a petty retailer instead of a hotel, concealing its actual business category. In Hingoli, assistant commissioner PM Khatal suspended the licence of a dairy unit run by a farmer producer company, following an inspection by food safety officer T S Ghope. The dairy had no insect-proof nets and was not getting milk tested from any internal or accredited laboratory. Furthermore, the hotel was being operated by a person who was not the licence holder, added an FDA official.
