The truck fled the spot with the vehicle after the accident. Varanasi: An elderly man and a teenager were killed after a speeding truck allegedly moving on the wrong side of the road ran over them on Chandpur-Akelwan road in Lohta area on Saturday.
In a separate accident in Mau, a 30-year-old man and his five-year-old nephew were killed after their motorcycle rammed into the rear of a stationary truck on Doharighat-Azamgarh road on Friday evening. The deceased were identified as Ayush Chauhan (30) and his nephew Kunal Chauhan, residents of Ward-1, Khatik Tola under Doharighat police station.
ACP (Rohania) Awadhesh Kumar Vishwakarma said the bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Doharighat police station in-charge Ramayan Singh said the family did not lodge a comolaint, following which the bodies were handed over to them after completion of basic legal formalities. Police said Ayush had taken his nephew to Nai Bazaar and was returning home, when the motorcycle went out of control. Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle was travelling at high speed before crashing into the stationary truck.
Lohta police reached the spot and pacified the protesters. Police were scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments and along routes in an effort to trace the truck and identify its driver. Police rushed severely injured Ayush and Kunal to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries later that night.
