BULANDSHAHR: BJP MLA from Dibai, Chandrapal Singh Lodhi, 63, was injured after his Toyota Fortuner skidded off the Ganga Expressway and crashed into a roadside pole near Pota Kabulpur village in the BB Nagar area of Bulandshahr on Saturday evening. The footage showed the Fortuner losing control and skidding for nearly 300 metres before the collision.
The accident occurred amid heavy rain and waterlogging on the expressway, according to preliminary information. The accident took place close to the Hapur border, around 40km from the district headquarters. The MLA was subsequently shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi for treatment. The accident was captured on CCTV.
Bulandshahr SSP Dinesh Kumar Singh confirmed that the Dibai MLA had been injured in the road accident and was taken to AIIMS for treatment. The accident comes amid heavy rainfall in parts of western Uttar Pradesh, with water accumulation reported at several stretches of the expressway. Police and local officials said those injured were out of danger. The impact was severe enough to break the roadside pole and badly damage the rear portion of the SUV. The airbags helped protect the occupants. Local residents and police reached the spot and helped pull the occupants out of the damaged vehicle. Lodhi suffered the most serious injuries. His personal security officer and driver also sustained injuries. Initial treatment was provided at a private hospital in Hapur, following which Lodhi was referred to Delhi AIIMS. MLA’s PRO Anoop Singh, gunner Amit Kumar and driver Vinod Kumar were among those injured. He also met BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary along with several other party legislators before leaving. Lodhi had been in Lucknow earlier on Saturday and had met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
