NEW DELHI: The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several states, with yellow alerts issued for Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir on September 28. The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has forecast continuous rain across Himachal Pradesh till September 29, after which the intensity is likely to decrease. Light rain is expected to continue in the middle hills, while the weather is likely to remain dry in the plains, low and high hills till October 2. The IMD has also forecast heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh on September 28. In West Bengal, isolated light showers are likely in the hill areas of north Bengal from September 28 to October 1, while the weather is expected to remain mostly dry elsewhere. A yellow alert for rain has been issued for Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir for September 28. The IMD has warned of continued heavy rain in Uttarakhand on September 28. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Jammu & Kashmir from September 28. Andhra Pradesh is likely to see cloudy skies, light rain and strong surface winds in several districts through September 29. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are likely to receive rainfall from September 28 to 30. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely on September 28. Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on September 28, while Arunachal Pradesh is likely to see widespread rain on the same day. Arunachal Pradesh could receive isolated to scattered rainfall on September 29-30. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura could see similar conditions through September 30. Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from September 29 to 30. Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep are also likely to receive rain during the same period, while Coastal Karnataka could see rainfall from September 28 to 29. North Interior Karnataka and Telangana are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from September 27 to 30. Similar conditions are expected in South Interior Karnataka on September 28. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on September 28 and Rayalaseema on September 28.

Rainfall activity in south Bengal is likely to decrease as the weather system affecting the region moves away from the state, the IMD said. The depression over the Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh region has moved away from the state, the weather office said. The IMD has forecast rain in Delhi over the next three days. Strong winds are also expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The rainfall could raise the risk of landslides and road blockages in mountainous areas. Rivers and streams may also see rising water levels. Waterlogging is possible in the plains. The state government has urged people to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and regularly check weather updates. Strong surface winds are also expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema during this period. Assam and Meghalaya are also likely to see isolated to scattered rain during this period. Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall over the next few days. The IMD’s latest forecast indicates continued rainfall activity across several parts of the country over the next few days, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected in several regions.
