Kolkata: The Baguiati police have put a local caterer under the scanner, along with the two brothers who run the catering service, after they allegedly absconded with an advance payment of Rs 1.25 lakh, leaving hundreds of wedding guests without food.
The complaint was lodged on September 26 by a woman from Jyangra South Math following a marriage ceremony, according to police sources. Based on the complaint, Baguiati police registered a case under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police said an investigation is underway to trace the two named suspects, who remain at large. She stated that she had entered into a formal agreement with two brothers who run a catering service based in the Cossipore Nilmoni Street area near Tala Bridge. She subsequently approached the police and lodged a complaint. Officers are also examining whether the duo has allegedly duped other event hosts in the city.
