Speaking at a mass Gita recitation programme attended by 11,000 people at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Adhikari said: “Recite the Gita openly, distribute the Gita, recite the Hanuman Chalisa, play the conch, mridanga and khanjani and chant Hare Krishna. Adhikari announced a 10-lakh-strong Gita recitation programme in Kolkata on Dec 29 and said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat could attend as chief guest. The CM said his recent discussion with Jagatguru Swami Rambhadracharya — a key witness in the Ram Mandir case — yielded an assurance that he would take a holy dip at Gangasagar on Makar Sankranti, Jan 15, 2027, and lead a religious assembly featuring 1,000 kunds (sacred fire pits) at Brigade Parade Ground from Jan 16 to 24.

Kolkata: “The weather has changed and so have the times (abhi mausam bhi badal gaya hai, zamana bhi badal gaya hai),” said CM Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday, assuring sadhus that they could now recite the Gita and the Hanuman Chalisa freely and warning that those who insult or threaten saints would face imprisonment. Referring to the controversy surrounding Dhirendra Shastri — popularly known as Bageshwar Baba — Adhikari said sadhus and religious leaders would continue to propagate Sanatan Dharma.
