Mumbai: A 21-year-old son of an advocate, accused of ramming his car into an immersion procession at Prabhadevi and injuring several people, has lodged a counter-complaint against nine members of the Ganpati mandal and at least six others, alleging that they assaulted him and his father, hurled abuses at them and vandalised his vehicle following an altercation over his attempt to enter his building. Dadar police have filed an FIR against K G Margcha Raja Ganpati Mandal members Akshay Soni, Manoj Singh, Sudam Kewat, Jaishankar Soni, Durgesh Soni, Amol Mohite, Akshay Rameshwar Soni, Aniket Soni and Gaurav Soni, along with five to six others, based on Pranav Agrawal’s complaint filed on Sept 25. Police said the incident took place on the night of Sept 25, Agrawal was returning home with his parents, advocate Rakesh Agrawal and Ranjana Agrawal, after dinner. Around 9.15pm-9.30pm, they reached Kakasaheb Gadgil Marg, where a Ganpati immersion procession was underway outside their residential building, Inder Tower. Around 15 to 20 people chased him into the premises, assaulted him and smashed the front and rear windshields of his car using bricks and sticks, according to his complaint.

Pranav claimed that when he requested members of the procession to allow him to enter the building, they asked him to drive ahead, take a U-turn and return. However, when Pranav attempted to turn towards the building gate, some members allegedly became aggressive, abused him and began arguing with him. He alleged that several people tried to drag him out through the car window and also manhandled his father when he intervened. His mother also tried to pacify the crowd. Fearing for his safety as more people gathered, Pranav claimed that he drove towards the building entrance, during which his car struck some people. He subsequently drove inside the building premises. They also allegedly damaged other parts of the vehicle. The complaint presents Agrawal’s version of the incident, in which he acknowledges that his car struck people during the confrontation but claims he drove towards the building after being threatened and fearing for his safety.
