Ulgulan Morcha organised by the members of tribal community few days back
Organised by the Sakal Adivasi Vidyarthi Andolan Kruti Samiti and the larger tribal community, the ‘Tribal Gen Z Ulgulan’ long march will be flagged off at 11:00am from Anant Kanhere Maidan (Golf Club Ground), Nashik. Their key demands include closure of central kitchens that serve substandard food to residential ashram schools, addressal of infrastructure gaps, provision of Rs1 crore compensation to families of deceased female students in Gadchiroli and Rs50 lakh to injured students, release of pending Swayam scheme DBT funds with increased assistance, transfer of the tribal development commissioner and secretary, and the resignation of tribal development minister Ashok Wooike. Nashik : Over a thousand college students and tribal community members from across Maharashtra are set to launch a foot march from Nashik to the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai today, demanding immediate resolution of long-pending issues plaguing tribal education and welfare.
The long march follows earlier demonstrations on Aug 18 (when the agitation began), Aug 20, and Sept 1 that failed to yield govt action. Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder and activist Abhijeet Dipke met the student protesters on Sept 3, advising them to end their hunger strike and shift their movement to Mumbai via a long march to ensure their demands were addressed by higher authorities. Students had previously launched an indefinite hunger strike to push for their demands. Gavandhe confirmed that direct phone discussions were held with CM Devendra Fadnavis , minister Ashok Wooike, and Nashik District Collector Ayush Prasad. “Students have set out from Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dhule, Nagpur, and other areas,” said Prashant Gavandhe, a member of the organisation, adding that mostly college students, who have cleared class X and individuals over 18 years, are participating in the agitation, with over a thousand people expected to join in. “We will take breaks in the night and continue walking during the day until we reach Raj Bhavan on Oct 4,” Gavandhe added. If it comes in writing, we will consider it further,” Gavandhe said, adding that students are willing to give the minister a chance if other demands are met.
The march will halt along roadside open spaces. Accepting the suggestion, the students ended the hunger strike and organised a march to Raj Bhavan. “The minister spoke to us positively. However, protesters maintain that a meeting time with CM must be granted immediately. Download the TOI App.
