Kanpur: Around 240 families were rescued from inundated residential areas along the Pandu River in three separate operations as heavy rainfall led to a rise in the river’s water level, flooding several localities in Kanpur. In Varun Vihar, Barra, around 82 families were rescued and shifted to the composite school in World Bank, Barra. Similarly, an NDRF team rescued 52 families from Pipori village, while a PAC team evacuated 15 families from Meharban Singh Ka Purwa and shifted them to a safer place. Around 102 families were evacuated from Gopalapuram with the help of boats.

Dwivedi said food and other essential facilities are being provided to the affected families. The district administration pressed teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) into rescue operations. Tehsildar (Sadar) Vinay Dwivedi reached the affected areas along with rescue teams and supervised the evacuation of families to safer locations. During the inspection, she observed that the excessively high water level in the Pandu River was obstructing the discharge of rainwater, resulting in waterlogging in Panki and Sundar Nagar. Teams from the Kanpur Municipal Corporation’s engineering and water works departments were deployed at the site to manage drainage operations. The mayor directed all the officials concerned to remain present at the spot, respond promptly to any emergency and ensure that the waterlogging problem is resolved at the earliest. Meanwhile, mayor Pramila Pandey visited Panki on Sunday to inspect the water logging situation in the area.
