Hyderabad: Bhadradri Kothagudem ranked seventh among districts and district groupings nationally for the share of 15-29-year-olds who were not in education, employment or training (NEET), with a rate of 42.7%, according to the ‘Labour Market Snapshot of Selected Districts’ report released by the NSO. The rate was 17.7 percentage points above the national average of 25% recorded in Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2025.
Bhadradri Kothagudem was the only Telangana entry in the national top 10. Anugul in Odisha topped the list at 56.1%, followed by Kendrapara at 51.4%, Dhenkanal at 45.3%, Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu at 44.9%, North Delhi at 44.3% and Pashchim Champaran in Bihar at 43.6%. Within Telangana, Khammam recorded the second-highest NEET rate at 38.2%, followed by the grouping of Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Jangaon and Mulugu at 38%. Mancherial and Peddapalli each recorded 33.9%, while Medak stood at 33%, Medchal-Malkajgiri at 32.6%, Nirmal at 31.7% and Nizamabad at 31.6%. In all, 13 of Telangana’s 25 district or district-group entries recorded NEET rates above the national average of 25%. Rajanna Sircilla recorded 26.7%, while Rangareddy was marginally above the national level at 25.5%. Hyderabad had a NEET rate of 13.2%, while the five-district grouping of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool and Narayanpet recorded the lowest rate in Telangana at 10.5%. Kamareddy recorded a rate of 18.4%, followed by Yadadri Bhuvanagiri at 17.2% and Suryapet at 16.9%. The NEET district-level figures show a wide variation across Telangana, with rates ranging from 10.5% to 42.7%. The gap between Bhadradri Kothagudem and the lowest Telangana district grouping was 32.2 percentage points, indicating substantial variation in the share of young people outside employment, education and training across the state. The NSO’s selected-district labour market snapshot was released on Sept 18 as part of the latest PLFS-based labour market data.
