Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all state departments to speed up financial approvals and improve budget utilisation in the current financial year, setting a target of utilising 70% of financial approvals and ensuring 60% exhaustion of allocated funds within the next two months.
Chairing a review meeting on Sunday with finance minister Suresh Khanna, Yogi said the first half of FY 2026-27 is nearing completion and departments with slow spending must immediately step up expenditure to ensure that funds meant for public welfare schemes and govt initiatives are used on time. Yogi reviewed financial performance and outlays across 30 major departments. Officials said Uttar Pradesh ’s FY 2026-27 budget stands at Rs 9,99,056.48 crore, an increase of Rs 1,58,474.15 crore over the previous year. Of the total outlay, Rs 5,01,957.09 crore has been earmarked for development programmes so far.
He said the purpose of the budget is not only allocation but timely deployment so intended benefits reach the public. The chief minister asked finance minister to conduct regular reviews with departmental ministers and identify policy, procedural and technical issues causing delays in approvals and spending. Senior finance department officials were instructed to closely monitor progress and submit periodic reports to chief minister’s office. Reviewing centrally sponsored schemes, he asked departments to coordinate closely with Union govt and directly engage with central ministers to secure pending approvals. He warned that accountability would be fixed for delays, poor execution or ineffective utilisation of available funds, and reiterated that there would be no compromise on quality or timelines.
