In the fall of 2025, he began working toward an Associate of Science in General Education with a focus on chemistry, taking a mix of in-person and online courses including American National Government, English Composition I, Freshman Seminar, Intermediate College Algebra, Precalculus Algebra and Music Appreciation. After years of individualised homeschooling focused on mastery rather than memorisation, he took a standardised college admissions test as a benchmark, and his high scores confirmed he was ready for a more structured and challenging setting.
His mother, Emma-Sara McMillion, noticed his exceptional ability to learn around the age of two, when he began identifying letters and sounding out words, according to Calhoun Community College. Doctor Jimmy Hodges, the college’s president, said McMillion is a shining example of what happens when curiosity, hard work and community come together. Long before he set foot on a college campus, McMillion was showing signs of unusual ability. By the time most children were learning their alphabet, he was reading street signs aloud, watching science documentaries and asking questions well beyond his years. The next step followed a series of thorough conversations between McMillion’s family and Calhoun’s admissions team and faculty. Those discussions considered not only academic readiness but also his emotional maturity, learning style and long-term aspirations.
As reported by WAFF 48, McMillion expects to complete his degree around this time next year, which could see him finish before turning sixteen.
