Ward office building collapses in Nepal
At least 10 people have died and one remains missing in Baglung after landslides struck several areas over the weekend, sweeping away homes and burying people, according to local authorities. At least 21 people have died, five are missing and five others have been injured following four days of heavy rain, floods and landslides between September 24 and 27, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). A government ward office building in Nepal’s Baglung district collapsed into the Daram River due to a landslide triggered by days of heavy rainfall.
The landslides are part of a wider spell of severe weather across Nepal. Superintendent of police Phanindra Prasai, chief of the district police office in Baglung, said four deaths and one missing case were reported in Tamankhola Rural Municipality, while five people died in Nisikhola Rural Municipality on Sunday.
