New Delhi: A new university campus for 8,000 students is a step closer to taking shape in north Delhi , with Public Works Department (PWD) set to begin initial site-clearing work at the proposed Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) campus in Dheerpur.
Delhi govt recently approved the project at an estimated cost of Rs 1,668.41 crore. Spread across nearly 20 hectares (50 acres), the campus will be developed in phases. The first phase will create academic facilities for around 5,400 students, while the fully developed campus is planned to accommodate around 8,000 students.

The department will start by clearing the jungle and wild grass across the site, marking the first on-ground activity for the permanent campus. The expenditure finance committee, chaired by chief minister Rekha Gupta, cleared the project in June. The project is aimed at expanding AUD’s capacity and providing modern academic infrastructure, with the campus planned as a modern, inclusive and sustainable academic environment.
