Hubballi : In connection with a case registered over the agitation for Mahadayi River water, the 1st JMFC court here has remanded Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, state president of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, to 12 days of judicial custody, on Monday.
In 2013 and 2019, farmers led by Kodihalli had staged rail blockades at the Hubballi railway station as part of protests demanding Mahadayi River water.
However, police sources said that since he failed to appear before the court, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him and he was arrested. Two separate cases were registered by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Kodihalli had come to Sirsi to participate in a farmers’ protest scheduled to be held at Dasanakoppa village.
Notices were issued in both cases directing him to appear before the court for the proceedings. Meanwhile, a team led by Hubballi RPF Inspector BK Prakash arrested him and produced him before the court.
During the hearing of the case, Kodihalli’s counsel petitioned the court seeking bail. However, dismissing the petition, Judge Sachinkumar Shivapuji ordered judicial custody. He is currently lodged at the sub-jail in Ashoknagar.
