Kolkata: West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBSSC) on Monday released a revised list of candidates for interviews for the selection of assistant teachers for Classes 11 and 12, cancelling the previous list.
The move comes in the backdrop of revised OBC sub-categories following govt’s decision to reduce OBC quota from 17% to 7%. The original panel and waiting list had been drawn for 12,445 assistant teacher posts for the Plus-II level. The revised list now comprises 20,244 candidates. Over 3,000 candidates who were on the previous panel — drawn under the 17% OBC reservation — have been removed from the revised list, while 3,000 fresh names have been included.
Based on this, SSC revised the interview panel for recruitment at the higher secondary level.
Candidates for the remaining 11 subjects will also be called for interviews shortly. Teachers from the 2016 panel who lost their jobs expressed concern after the notice was released. The top court has extended the deadline to complete the entire recruitment procedure till May 31, 2027.
The govt must take a positive step to ensure the jobs of all candidates who lost their positions. A notice by SSC said: “All counseling processes held on the basis of the earlier panel and waiting list for the post of assistant teachers are hereby cancelled, and all recommendation letters issued following those counseling processes are hereby withdrawn. Chinmoy Mandal, a prominent face of the teachers’ movement, said: “The candidates are living in extreme uncertainty. Those newly included in the list will be called for interviews soon. However, candidates who have already appeared before the interview board do not need to appear again.
