Garbage and polythene were found scattered on roads and public places, while cleanliness around roadside trees was also poor. Several footpaths were damaged and poorly maintained, and drains were found clogged and overflowing at some places. The commissioner directed officials to launch a special cleanliness drive , ensure regular garbage lifting, clean drains and remove encroachments from roads and footpaths. The commissioner directed officials to install sufficient dustbins in major markets and ensure timely garbage collection. Vendors were also asked to maintain cleanliness around their stalls and not dump waste on roads or in drains. Food stalls were also checked and several items were found kept uncovered in unhygienic conditions. Some vendors were using dirty water to cook food and wash utensils. The commissioner asked officials to ensure clean water and utensils are used and to carry out regular inspections to ensure food safety rules are followed.
