Nashik : The anti-gunda squad of Nashik city crime branch intercepted an illegal firearms deal on Saturday night, arresting three people and seizing three country-made pistols and three live cartridges in a crackdown on arms dealers and habitual offenders.
On the night of Sept 26, police constable Kalpesh Jadhav received confidential information indicating that three individuals were arriving on the Panchavati-Makhmalabad Road near Ghadge Nagar to sell illegal firearms. The accused have been identified as Kiran Kewar (26), Pranav Varade (20) and Kunal Chauhan (19), all residents of different parts of Nashik city. In total, the police seized three country-made pistols, three live cartridges and other articles worth Rs 2.15 lakh.
A search revealed that each individual was carrying a country-made firearm tucked into their waistband along with a live round of ammunition. The police action came following directives issued by commissioner of police Sandeep Karnik to maintain a tight vigil on repeat offenders, wanted criminals, and individuals illegally possessing weapons. Upon being briefed, in-charge officer Sandip Pawar formed three special teams and dispatched them to lay a trap. The team set up a strategic ambush in an open plot in front of Wadjai Mata Nagar, near Ghadge Nagar. Exercising tactical precision, officers successfully cornered and detained three suspects. A case under the Indian Arms Act has been registered against the trio at the Panchavati police station.
