Varanasi: Azamgarh SSP Anil Kumar suspended four policemen, including Rani Ki Sarai SHO, late on Sunday night for failing to monitor a criminal who threatened the complainant in his case after being released from jail.
Officials detected negligence by the policemen while reviewing a case registered at Nizamabad police station under sections 123 (intoxicating substances to harm someone) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS.
Any laxity, indiscipline or failure in duty would invite strict departmental action under rules, he said. The suspended cops are: SHO Vimal Prakash Rai, sub-inspectors Girish Tiwari and Haider Ali Mansuri and constable Vaibhav Patel, posted at Nizamabad police station. Departmental inquiries have also been ordered against all of them. The police were required to verify the accused after his release on bail in this case and upload the relevant details on the Yaksh app. However, the mandatory procedure was not completed in time. After coming out of jail, the accused allegedly threatened the complainant. A complaint was also received that fake IDs were created to circulate photographs and videos. During scrutiny, senior officers found that timely verification and entry of required information regarding the accused had not been ensured. The SSP held the lapse to be prima facie gross negligence, indifference, arbitrariness and dereliction of duty. He warned all police personnel in the district that monitoring of accused persons after bail, updating records and uploading app-related information must be done promptly.
