Varanasi: Celebrations turned into mourning after at least three people, including the groom’s younger brother, died when a metal tent pipe came in contact with an overhead 11,000-volt high-tension power line during walima preparations in the Islamabad locality under Dakshin Tola police station area on Monday.
To host the walima feast in the evening, a tent was being installed on the roof when the iron pipe touched the overhead power line. Apart from the groom’s younger brother, two labourers from a tent house were electrocuted.
The incident took place at the house of Abul Hassan, where walima preparations were underway after the nikah of his son, Barkatullah, earlier in the day.
The deceased were identified as the groom’s younger brother, Mahmood alias Mohammad Kamil (18), and two tent workers, Kamil (25) and Irfan (28). Circle Officer Nitesh Kumar Singh said the victims were taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Download the TOI App.
