Now, with Gracie Hunt preparing to marry Derek Green, the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, that connection has taken on an almost storybook quality. Hunt founded the franchise in 1959 as the Dallas Texans , one of the original American Football League teams. The club relocated to Kansas City in 1963 and became the Kansas City Chiefs. Lamar and Norma married in 1964, shortly after the franchise’s move to Kansas City. Tavia was working as a college intern in the Chiefs’ public relations department in 1991 when she met Clark. His father, Trent Green, spent six seasons as the Chiefs’ quarterback from 2001 through 2006. In 2017, Gracie and Derek reconnected on the sidelines before a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium. Even more poignantly, Gracie has revealed that Derek’s father has been connected to her family for years beyond football.
Clark told Tavia that he hoped he had found the person with whom he could travel through life. Tavia has said she still keeps that postcard framed. Gracie has said that she and Derek would play together as babies during the Chiefs’ Christmas parties. Gracie shared the news with the words “It was always you,” while Derek responded, “FOREVER AND EVER. Derek was growing up as the son of one of the team’s quarterbacks. The Chiefs were the common thread. Their childhood connection might have remained just a sweet family memory if they hadn’t crossed paths again years later. Years later, Gracie would describe their connection using a phrase that made the story feel even more poetic: an “invisible string. What began as a childhood friendship eventually became a romance. Then came the next chapter. The engagement brought the two families together once again, with their parents present for the celebration. Even the engagement ring carried a family connection. The emerald-cut ring featured a green center stone, a fitting detail for someone marrying into the Green family. More importantly, Gracie has spoken about the significance of the people and relationships surrounding the ring and the proposal. And then, after their engagement celebration in August, Gracie and Derek returned to Arrowhead Stadium, the very place where their adult story had begun. When she eventually shared their relationship publicly, she referenced the fact that they had met at Arrowhead years earlier and suggested that something had been quietly connecting them all along.
