Thrissur : Bucking the statewide trend, UDF gained an advantage in Thrissur in the byelections. UDF also wrested Kurumala ward in Chelakkara, long considered a CPM stronghold. BJP emerged as the runner-up in two seats. With the victory of the UDF nominee in the Thali division, the front’s tally in Wadakkanchery block panchayat has risen to seven, putting it on a par with the ruling LDF, which also has seven seats.
