Many said long working hours and dependence on daily earnings often made it difficult for them to visit hospitals for routine check-ups. “Timely screening and simple precautions can help detect potential health problems early,” he said. Rickshaw pullers, e-rickshaw drivers, labourers, porters and passersby were screened for blood pressure, blood sugar and other basic heart-health parameters. Doctors counselled them on recognising warning signs of heart disease, seeking timely medical care and reducing health risks through a balanced diet and healthier lifestyle. For several workers, the roadside camp provided an opportunity to undergo health checks without having to take time off work. The initiative aimed to bring preventive healthcare closer to people who spend most of their working hours on the streets and may overlook early symptoms of illness.
