Agra: Etawah divisional forest officer (DFO) Vikas Nayak, 36, and his driver were killed after a man allegedly dozed off at the wheel and lost control of his SUV, which crossed the divider and crashed head-on into their vehicle on Agra-Lucknow expressway in Firozabad district on Tuesday.
Three others were injured in the collision, police said.
Nayak, his driver Devansh Singh, 26, and the mother of Nayak’s colleague were travelling towards Noida when the accident occurred. Police said the other SUV was being driven by David Dsouza, 69, a resident of Hotman Road in Kolkata, who was travelling with his wife, Mamta, 65. Investigators said Dsouza allegedly dozed off at the wheel, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and cross the divider into the opposite lane. Firozabad DSP Chanchal Dubey told TOI, “The impact left both vehicles badly mangled. All five were taken by ambulance to Saifai PGI, where Nayak and Devansh died during treatment. The other three are undergoing treatment. The Nagla Khangar police team and an ambulance immediately reached the spot after receiving information. The families of the deceased have been informed.
