Fear of failure shadows entrepreneurial rise: GEM report

GEM Report

The report was recently launched at Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) during a two-day international conference on ‘Empowering MSMEs to Lead the Industry 5.0 Transition’. Shukla said the report reflects global economic scenario, with larger GEM initiative covering 51 countries, ranging from Canada and China to Brazil and Thailand. “India’s total early-stage entrepreneurial activity (TEA) remained stable at 12.2% in this round compared to 12% in the last round. The entrepreneurial intentions declined from 19.5% in 2023-24 to 17.8% in 2024-25,” he said.

The authors said the critical next phase for India was to convert high entrepreneurial confidence into more scalable enterprises, stronger job creation, wider technology adoption and durable business growth. The authors include Sunil Shukla, director general of EDII, along with faculty members Pankaj Bharti and Amit Kumar Dwivedi. “For a region like Gujarat, it is often the choice between owning or starting a business versus getting a stable job.
