Ahmedabad: The associations of lawyers at city civil court in Bhadra court here on Tuesday decided to stall court operations until Oct 3 to protest state govt’s amended Gujarat Rent Control Act by which it has changed the jurisdiction for rent-related cases from small cause courts to revenue authorities – collector, deputy collector and mamlatdar. Ahmedabad Bar Association and Ahmedabad Small Cause Courts Bar Association resolved to block the gates of the city civil court at Bhadra, where the small cause courts are also located. Members of other bar associations of the city and Bar Council of Gujarat participated in the meeting in which the resolution was passed. The resolution passed by the bar associations stated that the amendment in the rent laws was not in the interest of the citizens and this would result in delay in justice delivery.
