Madurai : Even as households in Madurai’s core areas face drinking water disruptions, a ₹370-crore pipeline project aimed at improving supply has missed its financing deadline. The corporation council on Wednesday approved extending the project period until Dec 31 after the grant and loan agreement expired on Sept 4. The project was originally sanctioned at ₹325 crore in Jan 2021 under ADB (Tranche III) to lay drinking water distribution pipelines in core wards. Its cost was later revised to ₹370.61 crore, comprising a ₹240.90-crore Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant, a ₹92.65-crore loan and a ₹37.06-crore Corporation contribution. The revised project received council approval in Aug 2023.
