From allowing parking on Garden Reach Flyover during school hours and diverting traffic via one-way roads, cops are using all options
“With 700-odd vehicles assembling in the morning and afternoon to drop off and pick up students, we have allowed a 10-minute parking on Garden Reach Flyover before pick up.
A school that has started operations close to Majerhat Bridge is yet to be allowed any official parking, according to traffic police sources. All school vehicles have been asked to take U-turn from Remount Road crossing instead of near Burdwan Road-DH Road crossing,” an officer said. We have not found answers to traffic issues in the morning, especially since the condition of DH Road here is such that it can lead to accidents,” a sergeant said.
Kolkata Police has also ensured that the pressure on Burdwan Road is eased. “In the evening, we are diverting vehicles from Lalbati close to Alipore Judges Court through Judges Court Road whenever the tail gets heavy at Alipore Ladies Park. Similarly, long-distance buses to Diamond Harbour, Kakdwip-Namkhana and Raichak are diverted via Ekbalpore,” the officer added. “Thrice, vehicles were diverted for the entire weekend. But the KMC patchwork got washed off in the rain. With a Durga Puja pandal coming up close to Mominpore crossing on the Kidderpore-bound stretch and station work commencing on Judges Court Road, a large portion of the road space has been blocked.
Sources claimed the police had earlier provided five road blocks on Burdwan Road for repairs by KMC.
