Nashik : The state marketing department on Monday constituted a committee headed by Nashik collector Ayush Prasad to investigate complaints of alleged irregularities in onion procurement carried out by two central agencies under the price stabilisation fund (PSF) scheme for the 2026-27 season.
The move follows complaints from public representatives, onion growers and farmer producer organisations alleging lapses in procurement operations undertaken by National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (Nafed) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF).
For 2026-27, Centre had set a PSF onion procurement target of 2 lakh tonnes, allocating 1 lakh tonnes each to Nafed and NCCF. The agencies, however, together procured only 1.21 lakh tonnes. Complainants have been told to provide supporting documents and evidence to facilitate a fact-based inquiry. The panel will examine allegations of mismanagement, procedural lapses and other irregularities in the procurement process. As per a govt resolution (GR) issued recently, the committee has been directed to submit its report to state govt within a month. The findings will determine whether corrective or administrative action is warranted. The administration has invited onion growers, FPOs, traders and other stakeholders to submit written complaints regarding irregularities or mismanagement in the procurement process within a week to the office of the district deputy registrar of cooperative societies, Nashik. Prasad urged stakeholders to come forward with information and adhere to the deadline to ensure a transparent investigation. Under the PSF scheme, Centre procures summer onions annually to build a buffer stock for release during the lean supply period between Sept and Oct. Besides Prasad, the committee includes the concerned sub-divisional officer, tehsildar, a collector-nominated representative and the Nashik district deputy registrar (cooperatives), who will serve as member secretary.
