DMK Srirangam area secretary M Ramkumar was arrested on Thursday by Trichy city crime branch police
Trichy/Madurai: Hours after his anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the Madurai bench of Madras high court , DMK Srirangam area secretary M Ramkumar was arrested on Thursday by Trichy city crime branch police on charges of illegally grabbing a parcel of land — worth Rs 50 crore — belonging to Srirangam temple. The FIR in connection with the case was registered on Sept 13 based on a complaint by Srirangam temple JC S Sivaramakumar.
“He has been arrested on false charges,” she told reporters. Police booked M Ramkumar of Thiruvanaikoil who is the Srirangam DMK area secretary, Padma Rengarajan of Chennai, Vijaya Krishnasamy of Bengaluru, R Soundararajan of Chennai, R Venkata Varadhan, and former Srirangam sub-registrar Vanitha under six sections related to cheating, use of forged documents and criminal conspiracy. After the case was registered by police, Ramkumar moved court to seek anticipatory bail. Anticipatory bail petition of then sub registrar Vanitha also was dismissed by the court.
The Madurai bench of Madras HC dismissed the plea on Thursday, leading to his arrest by the police. However, Ramkumar’s wife, Andal, said he was arrested on Thursday morning while he was going to Madurai for the court hearing.
