Tejaswini Basavaraja, a student from Bidar, had booked a seat on a KKRTC sleeper coach to travel from Bidar to Davanagere on Nov 16, 2025. With officials failing to make alternative arrangements, Tejaswini hired a car from Kalaburagi to Davanagere for Rs 18,700. A bench comprising commission president Malathi Guranna and member M Lokesh directed KKRTC to reimburse Rs 18,700 with 6% interest from Jan 3, 2026, until the date of payment. The bench also directed the KKRTC managing director and the service manager of Bengaluru Transport Corporation to pay Rs 10,000 towards compensation for mental agony and deficiency in service and Rs 5,000 towards litigation costs.

Kalaburagi : The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered KKRTC to compensate a passenger for deficiency in service after a sleeper bus broke down midway through her journey. The bus was scheduled to leave Bidar at 6pm and reach Davanagere at 6am the following day. The bus departed as scheduled but broke down near Humnabad. It was subsequently taken to the Kalaburagi depot, where attempts to repair it failed. Tejaswini sought alternative travel arrangements from corporation officials, pointing out that she had an examination the following morning. She subsequently approached the consumer commission, seeking reimbursement of the cab fare and ticket cost, besides compensation for the mental agony caused.
