New Delhi: The inquiry into the death of a 31-year-old MSc physics student at IIT Delhi has received a second extension, with the committee now expected to submit its report by Oct 10, according to a source.

Headed by retired Delhi High Court judge Mukta Gupta, the panel was given two weeks to complete its work when it was reconstituted on Aug 27. Later, the deadline was extended to Sept 30. The latest extension gives the committee another 10 days to conclude the proceedings and submit its findings. IIT Delhi first constituted an inquiry committee on Aug 25, appointing former Uttarakhand director general of police Ashok Kumar as its chairperson. Kumar subsequently withdrew, citing personal reasons, following which the institute reconstituted the panel under Gupta on Aug 27. On Sept 14, the institute approved the committee’s first request for additional time, allowing the inquiry proceedings to continue until Sept 30.
