FIR against X user for giving caste angle to Azamgarh killings

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Varanasi: An FIR has been lodged against an X user for allegedly attempting to give a Thakur-versus-Brahmin colour to the Sept 22 Shambhupur killings in Azamgarh , in which a man killed his wife, two priests and his six-year-old son before being gunned down during police action.

Azamgarh SSP Anil Kumar said on Thursday that an FIR was registered at Ahraula police station against the X handle @Wale……70737 for allegedly posting misleading claims portraying the Shambhupur incident as a case of caste tension. Police said the Sept 22 tragedy stemmed from a dispute during the fourth day of household rituals and not from caste rivalry. The case was registered under charges related to online identity-based fraud, misinformation and circulation of malicious content. Accused Arvind Singh allegedly opened fire on his wife and two priests. His wife tried to save them, but all three died. He then locked himself inside the house with his three children. Police negotiated with him for nearly seven hours, but he allegedly shot his son. During police action to rescue the children, Arvind was injured. He later died in hospital, while his two minor daughters were rescued safely.
