Social Welfare minister Asim Arun honours a centenarian on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons
Lucknow: To mark the International Day of Older Persons, the state govt on Thursday honoured three persons who have completed 100 years and awarded four senior citizens for their contributions to society. Maintenance tribunals, chaired by the SDM, have been constituted in all 75 districts of the state,” Arun said.
He said that respect for elders should come naturally to one, and not be limited to a ‘duty’. Social welfare minister (independent) Asim Arun called senior citizens an invaluable source of experience, values and principles, saying that society is enriched by their experience and blessings. “To increase the availability of trained caregivers for the elderly, the care economy is being linked with employment and social security. For the welfare of senior citizens, the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and the National Old Age Pension Scheme are in operation.
