The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court has disposed of a writ petition filed by mosque mutawalli (caretaker) Zeeshan Ahmad Fareed, challenging a demolition notice issued for Mustafa Masjid in Mohalla Idgah, Moradabad district.

The matter came up before a division bench comprising Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Kunal Ravi Singh on Sept 28. The petition had sought quashing of the show-cause notice dated Aug 21, issued by the MDA under Section 27(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, and directions restraining demolition, sealing, disconnection of electricity or water, or other coercive steps. During the hearing, additional advocate general and senior advocate Mahesh Chandra Chaturvedi informed the court that the Moradabad Development Authority had withdrawn the impugned notice after finding it defective. It was also stated that the authority would issue a fresh notice in accordance with law. Recording the statement made on behalf of the state and the authority, the bench disposed of the petition.
