Agartala: Police arrested three men on suspicion of extorting money from a motorist and assaulting an on-duty woman police sub-inspector near a cafeteria in Baramura hill range in Teliamura, Khowai district.
Police identified the accused as Druba Saha (21), Sudip Chakraborty (25) and Uttam Deb (28), all residents of Shantinagar in Teliamura police station area. Manikpur resident Sanjit Chakma filed a complaint at Teliamura police station late Thursday, alleging unidentified men obstructed his Bolero pick-up near a concrete overpass on NH-8 and extorted Rs 2,000, according to police. When SI Das Gupta arrived, a motorcycle rider allegedly hit her with his vehicle while his pillion rider pushed her, causing her to fall on NH-8 and sustain injuries.

Responding to the complaint, SI Sampa Das Gupta, Sumitra Debbarma and three constables on night patrol reached the spot. Chakma identified the accused, after which police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel arrested them. The accused also allegedly misbehaved with women police officers during the arrest. They were produced in district court for remand on Friday.
