Kanpur: Auraiya police and the SWAT/surveillance team busted an illegal arms factory operating in fields at Malkapur village in Auraiya district on Friday and arrested a 51-year-old man, identified as Vinod Kumar Rajput, a resident of Nandpur in Dibiyapur. The raid was conducted following a tip-off received on Oct 1, during which officers recovered 19 finished and 12 half-made country-made pistols, cartridges and weapon-manufacturing equipment from the site, according to police. Police also recovered 12 iron barrels, a grinder, drill machine, welding machine, springs, triggers, a saw, file, hammer and other tools used in manufacturing firearms.

Police said Rajput was caught near a tubewell where he was allegedly manufacturing weapons using a welding machine and grinder connected to an electricity transformer through a cable. Police said Rajput confessed to making and selling country-made pistols for profit. Legal action is being taken against him under the Arms Act and other relevant sections, police said.
