Kanpur: A woman teacher was killed and six people, including students and teachers, were injured when a school bus collided with a dumper on the Kanpur-Sagar Highway near Harbaspur village on Friday morning.
The bus, belonging to Cheena Public School in Ghatampur, was carrying 35 people to school for Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. The deceased was identified as Aishwarya Srivastava (35). Bus driver Arjun said a gravel-loaded dumper suddenly appeared while overtaking a car from the opposite direction. Police said the dumper had been taken into custody and further action would be taken based on the complaint. The impact shattered the bus windows, leaving passengers with glass injuries to their eyes, heads and necks. Police pulled the injured out of the bus and took them to hospital. He tried to take the bus off the road, but the dumper struck its side. Villagers caught the dumper driver and handed him over to police. Police took the dumper into custody and began an investigation, saying they would take further action if a complaint was filed. Download the TOI App.
Teachers Anju Rita (37), a resident of Taudhakpur, and Himanshu Yadav (30), of Juhi Lal Colony, were referred to the district hospital for treatment. Others were discharged after receiving first aid.
