Bulandshahr : A 59-year-old man died after falling into a deep pit dug along Bulandshahr-Meerut national highway near Bhood crossing while returning home to Hapur district after visiting his sick sister, police said.

An NHAI official confirmed the pits had been dug for solar light installations, and said an internal inquiry was underway. Ravi Ratan, station house officer at Dehat police station, said CCTV footage showed the man failed to notice the pit and slipped into it. “No complaint has been received so far,” he said. His family and local residents protested after the incident, accusing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) of failing to put up safety barriers around the excavation. Police recovered Nasim’s body and sent it for an autopsy before handing it over to his family. Download the TOI App.
