Kumbh Mela minister Girish Mahajan holding meeting with NMC officials on Kumbh Mela
Nashik: With the monsoon retreating and road construction activities set to resume at full pace, Kumbh Mela minister Girish Mahajan on Friday directed civic officials to expedite pending road projects across Nashik and ensure their timely completion ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. During the review, officials informed the minister that work on 18 major roads is currently underway across the city. Nearly 90% of utility-shifting work on these routes has been finished, clearing the path for faster road construction.

Both arterial and internal roads must be inspected and repaired without delay, he said. Mahajan issued the directives while reviewing various infrastructure projects being executed by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) at a meeting held at the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority office. Mahajan stressed that all pending works related to civic amenities must be completed on a priority basis. He also directed officials to immediately repair potholes formed during the monsoon, ensuring standardisation and durability in road restoration. Civic officials added that asphalting and surfacing works would gather significant momentum starting in Nov. The meeting also reviewed progress on key transit routes linked to Kumbh preparations, including the Dwarka–Sinnar Phata corridor and other major bypasses intended to streamline regional traffic. Meanwhile, NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri stated that the proposed parallel road to Gangapur Road would be prioritised, with tenders scheduled to be floated within a month. Mayor Himgauri Adke, MLA Devyani Pharande, district collector Ayush Prasad, Kumbh Mela Authority commissioner Shekhar Singh, and other senior civic officials attended the meeting. Pharande urged the administration to finish road works swiftly to minimise disruptions for local residents. Download the TOI App.
The minister assessed the progress of road, bridge, water supply, and drainage projects, instructing officials to maintain both speed and quality during execution. He noted that the city’s growing infrastructure requirements and the upcoming Kumbh Mela demand timely handover of all critical works. Emphasising the need to compensate for delays caused by the monsoon, Mahajan stated that the post-monsoon dry-weather window must be utilised effectively to accelerate civil works on major corridors. He also instructed officials to resolve bottlenecks hindering the long-pending Gharpure Ghat–Ramwadi bridge project and asked them to complete all administrative and technical formalities without delay. Once completed, the bridge is expected to enhance connectivity and decongest vehicular movement in the area. The Kumbh Mela minister further directed NMC authorities to speed up sewage treatment plant (STP) projects at Tapovan and Agartakli, noting that the works will reinforce the city’s drainage network and upgrade civic amenities.
