NEW DELHI: A 79-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife were injured after a Hyundai Creta allegedly hit them near Arya Samaj Mandir in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar on Friday, police said. The incident took place on October 2, following which police registered an FIR at Kirti Nagar police station under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused, identified as 49-year-old Navleen Kaur, was arrested in connection with the case, police said. The injured couple, identified as Dayanand Tagra, 79, and Kusum Tagra, 71, were taken to a hospital and are recovering, police said.
The Hyundai Creta involved in the accident has also been impounded. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident and are examining evidence collected from the spot. CCTV footage has surfaced capturing a hit-and-run incident involving an elderly couple. The video shows the pair walking along the road when they are suddenly struck by a grey SUV. As alarmed passersby and local witnesses rush to the scene to offer assistance to the injured couple, the driver of the offending vehicle briefly steps out. However, rather than rendering aid or calling for emergency services, the driver inspects the injured victims on the ground before getting back into the SUV and fleeing the spot, leaving the bystanders to tend to the victims.
