Riley subsequently filed for divorce in 2016. Their relationship was on-and-off between 2016 and 2018. Musk and Canadian musician Grimes publicly revealed their relationship in 2018. Their first child, X Æ A-Xii, was born in May 2020. Their second child, Exa Dark Sideræl, was born via surrogate in December 2021. A third child, Techno Mechanicus, was later reported to have been born in 2022.

Ashley said it struck as pretty odd that Shivon wrote that she and their children were Elon Musk’s respite, as this should not happen. “Children should not be emotional comfort for damaged men,” Ashley said. ” Ashley said she felt bad reading Shivon’s post because Shivon seemed to be groveling and the post read like a “trauma bond” but she said she understood immediately that Shivon had no other way to communicate with Elon as further communications only happen through attorneys. Ashley said her understanding of the situation was that it did not happen in a week; there had been moves to separate and disentangle her from his life for a month. Ashley said Grimes was blindsided by Shivon when her surrogate was giving birth to her and Elon Musk’s child while in the same hospital, Shivon was also giving birth to her and Elon’s child.
