Chennai: Two men from Bihar , Ajit Bhagat, 21, and Sanjeev Kumar , 32, were arrested for posing as railway officials and cheating train passengers from North Indian states. Police said Rupesh Kumar, 24, from Bihar, who worked at a private dal company in Andhra Pradesh, had arrived at Perambur railway station on Sept 4 to travel to Bihar. They took him to the Bandar Garden area in Perambur, where they snatched 2g of gold, worth ₹2.5 lakh, a mobile phone and ₹7,000 in cash before fleeing. Inquiries revealed that the accused had used the same method to rob another person of ₹10,000 and a mobile phone.
Police said the duo had targeted passengers from northern states in more than four such incidents. The two men approached him and offered to arrange a reserved ticket to his native place. Based on Rupesh’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested the duo. The arrested duo was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
