The price of the new Kindle starts at $149.99, while the Kindle Paperwhite starts at $199.99 and the Kindle Colorsoft starts at $289.99. Amazon has launched a completely redesigned Kindle lineup, bringing new designs, displays and features across its e-readers. The new range includes an updated Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft, along with new Kids versions.
In a press release, the company said that it has redesigned the devices with flush-front displays, thinner bodies and new colours.
New Kindle gets a smaller and lighter design
The new 6-inch Kindle is the most ‘pocket-sized Kindle’ Amazon has made. It comes with 16GB of storage, up to six weeks of battery life and opens books 30% faster than the previous model. The device comes in Ube and Graphite and starts at $149.99. Amazon says it can offer up to 12 weeks of battery life on a single charge. The standard Paperwhite comes with 16GB storage and starts at $199.99 in Graphite. It starts at $249.99.
Amazon says this results in darker blacks and sharper text. The Kindle now has a flush-front display without a raised border around the screen. Amazon has also redesigned how the display, front light and touch layers are put together. The new Kindle Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than the previous model. It is waterproof and comes with an adjustable warm light. The Paperwhite also gets the largest display in the Kindle Paperwhite range, along with a higher contrast ratio. The Paperwhite Signature Edition gets 32GB storage, an aluminum back, an auto-adjusting front light, wireless dock charging and a double-tap feature for turning pages.
The Kindle Colorsoft comes with 16GB storage and starts at $289.99 in Graphite. It starts at $319.99 and is available in Graphite and Fig. The new display uses a redesigned light guide and other display technologies to improve colour, brightness and contrast. The Colorsoft Signature Edition comes with 32GB storage, an aluminum body, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turning and dock charging.
