Before the opening of the hospital, the Benioffs also announced another donation of $100 million in 2014 in order to support USCF Benioff Children’s Hospital and its affiliate, Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland. The funding was also intended to strengthen paediatric research, clinical programmes and talent recruitment across both institutions. After the affliction, the hospitals were also renamed as UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. As per SUCF, the Mission Bay hospital was designed mainly around the needs and requirements of children and their families. The rooms of the patients were built to accommodate the parents who were staying with their children, while the additional rehabilitation, play therapy and outdoor spaces were included to support recovery. Along with this, UCSF also highlighted that the hospital’s proximity to its biomedical research campus, which was intended to speed the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical treatments.

In 2010, Salesforce co-founder and CEO Marc Benioff and his wife, Lynne Benioff, donated $100 million to the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to help fund the construction of a new children’s hospital, a project that would later become one of the most significant healthcare developments in the San Francisco Bay Area. Announced in June 2010, the donation was described as the largest gift ever made mainly to the UCSF Children’s Hospital. The facility was designed with 183 beds specifically for children and their families, with expanded capacity compared with the existing hospital and an on-site helipad to accommodate critically ill patients requiring emergency transport. Five years after the gift was announced, the new UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco opened as part of a larger 289-bed hospital complex at Mission Bay. UCSF said the hospital began operations on 1 February 2015 and featured 183 beds, increasing capacity from the previous facility while providing specialised care environments designed for children and their families.

Also, it is one of the largest private donations made to a children’s hospital in the United States at that time. As part of the recognition and gratitude towards the contribution, the facility also renamed the facility as UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. As per UCSF, the gift made by Benioff supported the development of a new children’s hospital at the Mission Bay campus in San Francisco. One of the hospital’s key features was a rooftop helipad that allowed critically ill newborns, children and pregnant women to be transported directly from community hospitals across Northern California. The facility also included a dedicated paediatric emergency department and intensive care services designed specifically for young patients
