The puja will be held from Oct 16 to Oct 20, with the festivities culminating in Vijayadashami on Oct 20. Around a dozen artisans from Kolkata began the main construction work on Sept 30, with the committee planning round-the-clock work to complete the structure by Oct 10. Kirti said the idol of Goddess Durga is scheduled to arrive at the pandal on Oct 11, ahead of the centenary celebrations.

Prayagraj : A 40ft replica of Jaipur’s iconic Amer Fort will rise in the heart of Prayagraj this Durga Puja , giving the city’s celebrations a royal touch as the Bairhana Barwari Durga Puja Committee prepares to mark the 100th year of its puja festivities. The organisers have planned the elaborate theme along with several attractions to make the centenary celebrations special. The Amer Fort-inspired pandal is being constructed at the venue in Bengali Tola. The committee had finalised the theme around six months ago, with president Umesh Mathur and general secretary Deepak Kirti taking the decision in consultation with other office-bearers. Work on the pandal began in the third week of Aug, but rain slowed construction, and so far only the bamboo framework has been erected. Plastic fibre required to recreate the fort has been brought from Gujarat. The pandal will have a large idol of Goddess Durga at its main entrance. Another major attraction will be a model of Ram temple in Ayodhya, which visitors will see upon entering the pandal. Download the TOI App.
