NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have arrested a man for allegedly creating and circulating an AI-generated poster that showed ACP Vivek Bhagat purportedly sexually assaulting a woman, officials said. The accused was produced before a court and police custody was obtained. The action comes amid a controversy over allegations of sexual assault and harassment involving Delhi Police personnel during recent protests. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das had accused police of refusing to register an FIR against ACP Bhagat over an alleged sexual assault of an independent journalist and had demanded action against the officer. CJP had also alleged that Delhi Police were attempting to protect the ACP and had claimed that a molestation complaint was not registered. Separately, complaints by three women journalists alleging sexual harassment by police personnel had led to protests and demands for action. Police are now examining the origin and circulation of the AI-generated poster and are investigating whether others were involved in creating or disseminating the fake material.
